Since we have done literally thousands of interviews over the years, interviewers for Readability tests have a common question which does not seem all that easy to answer: How come that respondents always have trouble finding the absolut contra indications? In every Readability interview, the (critical safety!) contra indications are interrogated, since they are vital for any patient to understand. The questions is oftentimes asked like “In what cases is X not suitable for you, and may you not start the treatment?”. And respondents in all European countries and of all (educational) backgrounds turn to answering with anything from pregnancy to relative contraindications and general warnings. One of the many theories of us interviewers is that the absolute contra indications are always following a header (section 2 header) and a sub-heading (titel for contra indications). Many times, the reader does simply not see the text unerneath. Still, we wonder, how can we see to it that the user will find this vital Information, at home and possibly in a stressful situation?
